Reconnect services supporting young people to stay connected

Reconnect is an early intervention service that aims to prevent young people, aged 12 to 18 years, from becoming homeless across the City of Banyule and Shire of Nillumbik.

The central focus of Reconnect is to assist young people and families to remain connected to each other and to the community. Reconnect recognises that individual young people and families may have multiple impacting needs requiring early intervention strategies.

The program works collaboratively with local services and people to develop strategies regarding issues surrounding youth homelessness. We work in a counsellor or case manager style, either on site or in the community.

Services for young people and their family:

  • Personal support - someone to talk to

  • Pathways to resolving conflict with family, friends, or school and help to access family mediation if desired

  • Advocacy with other youth services

  • Information about options or issues of concern

  • Practical help e.g. filling in forms, enrolling in study, or getting to appointments
