Eating well for memory health

Eating well is one of the most powerful ways to support our memory and brain health as we age. While no single food is a ‘magic bullet’, a brain-healthy diet can improve cognitive function and help protect against diseases like Alzheimer’s.

Focus on ‘brain foods’

The MIND diet (Mediterranean-DASH Diet Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay) has been designed to include foods that may slow cognitive decline and provide health benefits for the mind (and body!).

Staples of this diet include:

  • Leafy greens: Spinach and kale have lots of vitamin K and lutein to support brain function
  • Berries: Blueberries and strawberries are rich in antioxidants that may delay memory loss
  • Healthy fats: Omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon, walnuts, and olive oil act as fuel for brain cells

Small changes, big impact

Try to include colourful vegetables with every meal. You can also swap processed snacks for a handful of nuts.

Drinking enough water is equally important. Even mild dehydration can cause confusion or fatigue.

By choosing nutrient-dense foods, we aren't only nourishing our bodies — we are helping to protect our most cherished memories too.
